“Phoenix First is a church that is for all people. The people give love freely and are very positive.”
Pastor Jeff May leads all creative departments, including Music (worship, productions, choir, orchestra, fine arts, and artist development), Media (video, audio, technical, lighting, set construction, props, and costumes), Drama (productions, fine arts, and weekly sketches in the service), and Communications (publications, Internet, social media, print ads, internal and external communications). All these areas create an atmosphere for people to engage in worship, connecting with God in a deeper way through the arts and the message. They also serve to keep people in the church informed as to what is going on around Phoenix First so they can remain assimilated in the church.
“I want to see people connect to Christ in a deeper, more meaningful way and then live changed lives as a result,” says Pastor Jeff regarding his vision for his ministry. “I believe that they have the power to do that in a way that can complement the spoken word.”
Pastor Jeff, who assumed the role of Executive Creative Director in April 2011, also led the Phoenix First creative team from 2001-2007. In addition to believing in the leadership at Phoenix First, one of the things about the church that stands out the most for him is seeing people who need a second chance in life receive that in a loving, non-judgmental environment.
“I am passionate about Phoenix First because this church has a great heart for people whom the world has given up on. They care about the forgotten and hurting, which is near to God’s heart,” states Pastor Jeff. “I want to be at a place that gives love as freely as Phoenix First does.”
Pastor Jeff graduated from Evangel University with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He is also licensed with the Independent Assemblies of God. He and his wife, Jann, are the parents of Austin, Brooklyn and Cayden.
